Weihergut Gallery

The WEIHRGUT GALLERY was founded in 1980 and presents 20th and 21st Century art in three different locations covering a total of approximately 1000m². The gallery has always concentrated on works from established artists and the advancement and support of young Austrian artists.

The faith placed in the gallery by its loyal customers has helped the gallery to become a renowned and successful player in the Austrian gallery scene. A central role in the gallery is played by the Cobra Groups with Corneille, Appel, Alechinsky and Doucet as well as Christo & Jeanne-Claude, Arnulf Rainer, Hermann Nitsch, Valentin Oman, Bram Bogart, Günther Förg, Richard Serra, Enrique Asensi, Antoni Tàpies, Jannis Kounellis aso.

Salie & Vertes Gallery

A decade would appear to be too short for a retrospection. However, considering the changes that have taken place we would like to reflect upon the work of the last few years and the location in Salzburg. Salzburg’s old town has rapidly lost its original character. The exponential growth in mass tourism with the all too well known side effects has transformed the city literally into an “Old Town Disney Land”. Today there is little of the former flair and the much-praised quality of life.

These facts have so dramatically changed the context of our work that we increasingly have begun to doubt the gallery’s location in Alten Markt. It was clear to us that we could no longer offer our customers and visitors the type of service that brought them to the old town in the first place. It became a strategic challenge to try to run a successful gallery in this location, a gallery that should remain a fixed appointment for every visit to the city. The positive response to our location in the old town and our success in the past are proof that the location in the old town is right, we would however have liked different general and working conditions. Finally the economical situation has also changed, not least because of globalisation, that doesn’t make any exceptions for the art trade.

Neuhauser Kunstmühle

The Neuhauser Kunstmühle is a continuation of the exhibition programme of the Schloss Neuhaus Gallery. Since 1989 our programme presents above all, a documentation of figurative trends in contemporary art. In the Kunstmühle it has now become possible to combine the artistic production in the print sector with the gallery under one roof. This gives the visitor a chance to enjoy a cohesive and fascinating exhibition. The Kunstmühle also offers more room for encounters and discussion. When developments take place in the presentation of art and the production of printed art, these are be given room to grow and be displayed here.

Traklhaus Gallery

The Traklhaus Gallery has been located in the poet’s birth house in Salzburg’s old town since 1973. For the first 10 year (until 1983) Salzburg’s Art Association was responsible for the exhibition programme in this gallery, then an exhibition series “Palette” with works from local artists was organised by the association for a further two years. From 1985 onwards the three exhibition rooms were taken over by the Culture Department of Salzburg’s Provincial Government who decided to offer a mixed programme of works primarily from Salzburg artists. Each year and exhibition was organised in cooperation with the International Summer Academy and with the Rupertinum Museum.

Galerie 5020

The Gallery 5020 (5020 is Salzburg’s postcode) is considered to be a place dedicated to the examination and understanding of contemporary art of all kinds. The exhibition programme and the services in the gallery support our intention to make this a lively impulse sending platform for discussion. In varying forums – discussions and lecture series – communication about and reflection upon current themes is provoked. The exhibition programme consists of grouped presentations that are usually theme orientated, and juried exhibitions (once a year an invitation is sent out and an independent jury is organised). The so-called studio is used as a project room, a platform for first time exhibitors but also a room for video screenings and further cooperation projects with other institutions. The Gallery 5020 operates under its board of trustees as a lobby and is active in culture-political aspects. As a member of the organising body “Salzburg’s Cultural Sights” broad and cross-linked commitment is important to us.

Textile Gallery Aichhorn

Our objective is to create a worthy setting for TextileArt, young artists from this sector should be given the chance to present their work. But also established artists should be given the opportunity to exhibit their work to wide and interested public in Salzburg. The gallery aspires to achieve the recognition it deserves and at the same time may contribute to the revival of the Steingasse.
How did this gallery come into being? I have personally collected Asian textiles for 28 years now, whereby the people who create such wonderful textiles and their cultures have always been of great interest to me. I have lived with them and learned to respect and treasure them. It was not also only ancient textiles that were of interest to me but examples of this art form still available today. That is why it was of great importance to make contact to local textile artists. The contact turned out to me Mrs. Brigitte Sindinger-Leben, a contact that has lead to one of the most significant institution in this sector in Salzburg.

The Berchtold Villa

Over 200 artists from the painting, sculpture, object art, photography, pottery, design, new media and jewellery sectors have come together in the “artbv” Berchtold Villa.

Working together for joint exhibitions, mutual interest and discussion on current themes and active contact with foreign cultures are an important basis for their joint work.

Exchange among the artists is just as important as lively contact with sponsors, members of other institutions, and art enthusiasts in general.
